White Fillings

White Fillings are comprised of a tooth coloured composite material which is used to restore a tooth back to its original strength, functionality and appearance. These fillings have replaced the previously used amalgam ones for a number of reasons. Firstly, as amalgam fillings contain mercury they often distort during temperature changes which may result in tooth fracture. Secondly, white fillings can be technically coloured to match your tooth’s existing colour, offering a more natural aesthetic appearance.

Their application procedure begins with an assessment of the mouth to determine if any fillings are necessary, or if any amalgam ones require replacing. Secondly the cavities, once cleaned and prepared, are filled with the composite resin which is then hardened with a specialised light to ensure its exact fit within the tooth. Finally the filling is polished and you walk out with a strong, natural smile. This procedure is usually complete within an hour.
